Anything is possible, one stroke at a time™
Over three decades in a healthcare career focused on stress-testing and Critical Incident Stress Management made the relaxing, meditative practice of Zentangle a natural fit for Carol.
An avid mixed media artist, she embraced this intricate, yet deceptively simple art form and discovered a sense of inner peace she'd not experienced with any other medium.
She traveled to Providence, Rhode Island in October 2013 and studied under the developers of the Zentangle Method to become Winnipeg's first Certified Zentangle Teacher. Now she enjoys sharing her passion with others and helping them connect with their inner creative spirit
who is Carol Graham
why tangled inklings
The "Inklings" were an informal group of mostly Christian friends, including C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, who gathered regularly in the mid-20th century at Oxford University, to discuss and critique their works, which could include dissertations, manuscripts, letters, artwork, photographs, and the like. Tolkien was attributed to saying the name was "a pleasantly ingenious pun in its way, suggesting people with vague or half-informed intimations and ideas plus those who dabble in ink".
Carol does like to dabble in ink, both with written word and visual art, and since a number of her ideas have often been only half-baked, "tangled inklings" seemed a fitting name.
Zentangle is an easy-to-learn method of creating intricate artwork by drawing complex patterns, one deliberate line at a time. It doesn't require any recognized artistic ability, and can increase focus, boost self-esteem and provide a creative outlet that is simple, inexpensive and portable. It provides a structured path for creating art from patterns, called tangles, by breaking them down into easy steps.
The creators, Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts, believe that LIFE is an art form and that their Zentangle Method is an elegant metaphor for deliberate artistry in life.
